Why Multifactor Authentication (MFA) Matters

And What You Need to Know Before May 1st

At Journey Credit Union, your security is our priority. That’s why we’re introducing a new layer of protection for your credit card starting May 1st: Multifactor Authentication (MFA) using One-Time Passcodes (OTP).

What Is Multifactor Authentication (MFA)?

Multifactor Authentication is an extra security step that helps ensure only you can use your credit card—even if someone else gets ahold of your card number.

Here’s how it works:
When you make a high-risk or unusual credit card purchase (like a large online transaction), we’ll send you a one-time passcode (OTP) via text message or email. You’ll need to enter this code to complete the purchase. If someone else tries to use your card, they won’t have the code—so the transaction is blocked.

Why It’s Important

Fraudsters are getting smarter, but so are we. MFA adds an essential second line of defense. Even if your credit card number is stolen, they can’t complete transactions without your unique OTP. This helps:

  • Prevent unauthorized purchases

  • Protect your identity and financial data

  • Give you peace of mind when using your card online or in unfamiliar places

What You Need to Do Now

To make sure you’re ready when this feature goes live on May 1st, we need your most up-to-date contact information. That means:

  • Your current mobile phone number

  • A valid email address that you check regularly

Without updated info, you might not receive your OTP, and your purchase could be delayed or declined.

How to Update Your Info

Updating your contact info is quick and easy:

  • Call or stop by any Journey Credit Union branch:

    • 1400 2nd Ave – Call us at 515-243-8735

We’re Here to Help
