Automatic deposits and withdrawals (credits and debits) can be a great convenience for you! Utility payments, insurance premiums, internet service providers, fitness clubs – there are many reputable companies that offer the convenient service of taking auto-payments directly from your account.
And more and more places offer direct deposit for your paycheck or other monies due you (for example, your tax refund).
We cannot be responsible for electronic withdrawals made from your account if you have given out your personal account information. We DO NOT, under any circumstances, give out this information without your authorization. Certain unscrupulous companies will get your information and process electronic withdrawals even if you decide at the end of the contact that you do not want their product/service. It is extremely difficult for you to get your money back from these companies, so we urge you to refrain from giving out this information unless YOU make the contact with the company. A reputable company will have no problem giving you THEIR number to call them back, and will not mind if you want to “check them out”. Another good idea is to check with your local Better Business Bureau if you are uncertain of a company’s reputation.
Once you have given out your financial information, whether by phone, internet, or using your debit card, you have “authorized” that company to make electronic withdrawals from your account(s). We CANNOT put a “stop payment” on these types of transactions; you would be responsible for stopping withdrawals and/or getting a refund.
