Since 1954, Journey Credit Union has been known for quality service, integrity and commitment to our members and their families.

We are proud of our roots in serving our Union Local members and will continue our dedication to serving our member’s financial needs. Our credit union was established on the hard-working principles of our founders and we will always be mindful of the continuing contributions to the credit union they built.

WHY THE NEW NAME?

It is important to the future success of our credit union that we encourage member growth. As with any industry, stagnation is not an option.

Our community charter, granted in September 2000, allowed us to expand membership to individuals beyond our original Union Local community base. The name Journey Credit Union has worked well for us over the years. However, it no longer accurately depicts and portrays who can join our credit union. In effort to be inclusive as possible and offer credit union benefits to our growing local population, a new name is necessary.

In the summer of 2018, a survey was sent to members to gain their input on the future of Journey Credit Union. Member responses in the surveys gave direction to what improvements were needed to best serve our members as well as the communities we support. Member feedback showed that our credit union needed a more inclusive and modern image to successfully continue our commitment to providing the best member experience for everyone.

IS THIS A MERGER OR SALE OF THE CREDIT UNION? IS Journey Credit Union CHANGING OWNERSHIP?

WHAT IS THE NEW NAME AND LOGO?

WHEN WILL THE NAME CHANGE OCCUR?

We have met the name change approval requirements by the State of Iowa and our Board of Directors. The actual change to signage, documents, etc. will occur summer of 2019. Our goal is to initiate the changes July 1st, 2019 and have them completed by fall of 2019.

WILL MY ROUTING NUMBER AND ACCOUNT NUMBER CHANGE?

NO, the routing number and your account number WILL NOT change. There will be no need to order new debit cards, credit card, or checks. Once your debit card and/or credit card expires, your new card will have our updated name and logo on it. Once you run out of checks, your new check order will also have the updated name and logo on the checks.

WILL MY Journey Credit Union ATM, DEBIT CARD AND CREDIT CARD STILL WORK?

YES. You can still use your current Journey Credit Union ATM, debit and credit cards. Your old cards eventually will be replaced with new cards displaying our new name and logo at the expiration date of your current cards.

DO I NEED TO NOTIFY COMPANIES ABOUT ANY CHANGES REGARDING MY DIRECT DEPOSITS OR AUTOMATIC PAYMENTS?

NO. Automatic drafts and direct deposits use the same routing/transit account numbers as now. These numbers have not changed, so there is no need to update this information with your providers.

HOW WILL THIS AFFECT MY MEMBERSHIP STATUS?

Not at all! The name change has no impact on member status. You and your fellow members will always be our credit union’s owners.

WHAT WILL CHANGE WHEN USING SHARED BRANCHING LOCATIONS?

The only change is starting July 1st, 2019 you will need to use JOURNEY CREDIT UNION as our name when using shared branches for those locations to look up your account information. Your account number and all other information used at shared branching locations will remain the same.

DO THE MEMBERS NEED TO VOTE TO APPROVE THE NEW NAME?

Current Credit Union law does not require a membership vote for a name change.

HOW DID WE ARRIVE AT THAT NAME IDEA?

The name JOURNEY CREDIT UNION was inspired by the philosophy of giving homage to the hardworking union members and JOURNEYmen that created the foundation of commitment and service to credit union members. As well as to continue our JOURNEY of ensuring a successful and prosperous future. The name JOURNEY CREDIT UNION gives respect to our heritage while creating a long and fulfilling future and everything in between.

We wanted a name that is simple and not constraining. We worked to create a name that is welcoming and reflective of our history as well as our goals for the future and the path in which we get there.

IS JOURNEY CREDIT UNION MOVING AWAY FROM ITS AFFILIATION WITH THE UNION COMMUNITY?

Absolutely NOT! Journey Credit Union is proud of our history with the Union Local community. It is these pioneering individuals who helped establish our credit union in 1954. We would not be here today if they had not founded this credit union and continued supporting us every step of the way. We greatly respect the founding group of members and will always acknowledge their continuing contributions and support. Far from being a move away from our roots, this change is a proactive step towards becoming a better financial institution. As times change, so does our evolving membership base. While Union Local members will always be a vital part of our foundation, we must acknowledge that our community charter gives us an ability and a responsibility to serve an expanded group of people. Our new name is more inclusive of all who live and work in our community.
